North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area, the 11th national scenic area planned by the Tourism Bureau, MOTC, was established on July 22, 2002.  The National Scenic Area encompasses several scenic spots in Guanyinshan, Sanzhi, Shimen, Jinshan and Wanli. The Administration is responsible for planning and management of the area’s tourism resources.

In the Scenic Area, you may enjoy water activities at Baisha Bay, play surf board at Jinshan Zhongjiao Shazhu Bay, paraglide at Feicui Bay, taste the famous Jinshan Duck, or watch the sunset over the sea in the gentle breeze at Qianshui Bay.  In winter time when cold air approaches, you can relax in a hot spring bath.

Take a tour on Guanyinshan, and  you will see the hiking trails, varieties of plant and animal species, and Buddhist temples of long history. From the top of Yinghanling, you will be impressed watching Danshui River flowing and the river shore. Stay on the hill top longer; don’t miss the night view.

Sanzhi is in the northwest of New Taipei City. Sanzhi has a long history of agriculture since the Japanese colonial period.  Li Tien-lu Hand-puppet Museum, the water-mill parks, Balian Stream, and Hengshan Terraces are the musts in Sanzhi.  Water oat, watermelon, and Taiwanese yam have been known as “products of Sanzhi."

Shimen is located on the northeast of Sanzhi. This district includes Fugui Cape, which is the northernmost spot of Taiwan. Baishawan, neighbored by a seashell beach, is now one of the most popular places and attracts thousands of visitors every summer. Shimen Arch, Shimen Wedding Plaza, Linshan Cape, Shimen Windmill Park, and many others are also worth visiting.

Jinshan is on the southeast of Shimen. Jinshan used to be famous for the underground gold throughout the whole township. Today it is a place of cultures of early times and natural attractions. You may be intrigued by the shops of traditional sweets or playthings in Jinbaoli Old Street, the hot spring places, Shazhu Bay(the surfing area), and Shitoushan Park where you can see the Twin Candlesticks (Islets) nearby.

Yehliu Geopark, which has the most stunning features in Taiwan, is located in Wanli on the southeast of Jinshan. Yehliu Geopark receives increasing numbers of visitors every summer. Queen’s Head, Fairy’s Shoes, Ice Cream Rocks, Candle Rocks, Elephant Rock...those rocks of unique shapes are the result of earth movement, rain, sea-water erosion, and constant wind blowing. You may be interested in paragliding at Feicui Bay and sunbathing at the beach resorts.  After the outdoor activities during the sunny daytime, you might want to take a walk at the fishing harbor and seafood restaurants along the coastal area where fresh fish, lobsters, crabs and others can be found.

The Administration hopes to preserve the natural state of the National Scenic Area and make more people know about this fun and educational part of Northern Taiwan.  Welcome to our administrated area to find out the history of the old towns, the formation of the mountains and Yehliu rocks. You may visit our website, call us or email us for information you need, or give us advices. Enjoy your trip!
