Good Food

The tasty snacks on the North Coast always attract a lot of tourists from different countries. Nanshan Village in Jinshan District is renowned for its red-heart sweet potatoes. Jumping Stone Taros

The taros grown on the terrace fields above the Jumping Stone Coast are soft, chewy, and delicious. The peak season is August to October. At this time, there are a number of stalls on the Jumping Stone section of the Danshui-Jinshan Highway selling taros, taro cakes, taro ice, deep-fried taros, steamed taros, and other tasty snacks.

Red-heart Sweet Potatoes

Nanshan Village in Jinshan District is renowned for its red-heart sweet potatoes. They are of a very high quality with rich starch content. They can be bought, some already baked too, on the Old Street and other places, and are well worth trying.

Jinshan Duck

Jinshan duck is one of the best-loved local delicacies, with people traveling from far and wide to enjoy it. The meat comes from male ducks that have been left to roam the hillside for at least 130 days. It is tasty and chewy, and always attracts numerous visitors.

Shimen Glutinous Rice Dumplings (Zhongzi)

In earlier days, the merchants or fishermen of Shimen would bring a “packed lunch” of rice wrapped in bamboo leaves when they went away from home, named “zhongzi” in Chinese, which later developed into a famous local delicacy.
