Wild Taiwan Lilies Blooming Along the North Coast—Come Enjoy a Sea of Blossoms and Embrace the Early Summer Charm

Each year, as spring transitions into summer, wild Taiwan lilies burst into full bloom along Taiwan’s North Coast. These native beauties can be admired in many scenic locations including the Baisha Bay entrance, Linshan Cape Trail, Fugui Cape Lighthouse Trail, Shitoushan Trail in Jinshan, grassy slopes outside Taiwan Power Company’s First and Second Nuclear Plants (along Provincial Highway 2), Yehliu Geopark, and Heping Island Geopark. The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters would like to inform the public that blooming season is expected to continue through mid-May, and warmly welcomes everyone to visit and witness the elegant charm of the wild Taiwan lilies in person.

Wild Taiwan lilies, endemic to the island, are known for their fragrant white petals and distinct purplish-brown stripes along the midribs of the petals’ backsides—a key identifying feature. Visitors are kindly reminded to enjoy and photograph the flowers responsibly, without trampling or picking them, so that this natural beauty may be preserved for all to appreciate.

In addition to flower viewing, visitors can explore nearby coastal attractions. Thanks to the collaboration between the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters and the Highway Bureau, the North Coast Seaside Cycling Route is now fully connected. Starting in Qianshui Bay (in Sanzhi), the route passes through the Shuangwan Bikeway (in Baisha Bay, Shimen) and continues along Provincial Highway 2, linking up with the Wanjin Bikeway near Jhongjiao Bay . Cyclists can enjoy scenic rides past the Yehliu Geopark, Guihou Venus Coast, Green Bay (in Wanli), and Keelung Lake and Bay area. Several YouBike rental stations have been set up along the route, making it easy to plan a relaxing bike trip. While cycling, cyclists can also explore local culinary specialties such as Shimen rice dumplings, gelidium jelly, street food from the Jinbaoli Old Street, and fresh seafood from the Fuji, Yehliu, and Guihou Fishing Harbors—leaving both their eyes and taste buds fully satisfied. To promote low-carbon travel, visitors are also encouraged to take public transport options such as the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle’s “Crown North Coast Line 716” (皇冠北海岸線716) or the Tamsui Bus Company’s Bus No. 862 or 863. These services offer a convenient way for visitors to explore the scenic North Coast without the hassle of driving while supporting sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.
