Large Expense on Tight Budget, for Better Coastal Environment

Shazhu Bay, being part of North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area in Taiwan, lies next to Jinshan which is an township of a long history dating back to the Japanese colonial period on the northeast of Taiwan.  Shazhu Bay is currently the only surfing area accessible in North Taiwan. The surfing area receives lots of visitors who are highly interested in surfing and other water activities during summertime.

At earlier time Shazhu Bay was legally administered by Forestry Bureau, New Taipei City Government, Coast Guard Administration and North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, and it was assigned to be under close surveillance by these units. However, the nearby land had been long left neglected and occupied by illegally parked cars and vendors, a situation which was the result of these authority units being unaware of their responsibilities.

Today, governed by North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, Shazhu Bay and its adjacent land area is one of the major concerns of the Administration. To resolve the issue of the abandoned state of this part on the northeastern coastal area of Taiwan, the administration set up a program of which the ultimate goal is to preserve the natural state while improving the environmental cleanness and safety. The administration staff repainted and repaired a cabin long located on the beach area and turned it into an office for the lifeguards. The whole beach area and the beach facilities are now leased to a firm who guarantees beach safety, beach cleaning, legal parking, surfing lessons, daytime security, emergency notice, facility function-maintenance, safety equipment supply, and meal service; the lease contract is valid for two year periods (05/01/2010 through 04/30/2012). Further, North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration aims to educate visitors on the necessity of following all the regulations, to fulfill requests or suggestions regarding the environment within Shazhu Bay area and to provide visitors with a satisfying and comfortable place to relax and have fun!
