Initiated by Ian Kiernan from Australia in 1993, the World Cleanup Day (the third weekend in September) is one of the world’s biggest global civil events. And in post-pandemic times, Heping Island Park and an international NGO called “Let’s Do It Taiwan” recently held an autumn beach cleanup, which is in its third year. A volunteer group, Friendly Seeds, also took part. Nearly 50 visitors set out for the cleanup at 4 a.m. and they collected 103 kg of garbage plus 113 plastic bottles in the end.
