The “2026 Fugui Cape Lighthouse Cycling Tour Around Northernmost Point of Taiwan” Event Draws 500 Cyclists to the North Coast

On September 12, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters hosted the “2026 Fugui Cape Lighthouse Cycling Tour Around Northernmost Point of Taiwan” event at the Fugui Cape Lighthouse, Taiwan’s northernmost point. More than 500 cycling enthusiasts from across Taiwan gathered on the North Coast to explore classic tourist attractions such as Baisha Bay, Qianshui Bay, Jhongjiao Bay, and Yehliu by bicycle. Riding into the sea breeze and enjoying the coastal and mountain scenery, the event participants experienced the North Coast’s natural beauty, local characteristics, and the appeal of slow travel, creating their own unique Fugui Cape cycling adventures.

The event offered two routes: a 22-kilometer “Slow Travel to the Northernmost Point” route and a 73-kilometer “Fugui Cycling Journey” route. Designed to accommodate both leisurely exploration and more challenging rides, the routes allowed participants of different ages and skill levels to choose the experience that suited them best. Whether experienced cyclists taking on a long-distance challenge or beginners cycling for leisure and sightseeing, everyone could ride at their own pace on the North Coast. The participants remarked on the beautiful coastal scenery along the way, noting that cycling into the sea breeze and taking in the mountain and ocean views felt very different from driving through the area. After completing the rides, many felt inspired to return to the North Coast to explore more tourist attractions and sample local delicacies.

Setting off from Fugui Cape, the participants rode along the North Coast, with the sea breeze, crashing waves, mountain views, and coastal settlements forming an integral part of the journey. The event’s message was not about how fast or how far people could ride, but about encouraging them to slow down and rediscover the North Coast by bicycle. Compared with driving through the area, cycling at a more leisurely pace gave travelers more opportunities to stop to admire and appreciate the scenery. By adopting an approach of “less rushing, more stopping to explore,” the participants experienced the North Coast’s distinctive coastal and mountain landscapes in greater depth while embracing low-carbon, sustainable travel.

By connecting Fugui Cape with tourist attractions along the route, the event gave the participants an opportunity to enjoy the fun and fitness benefits of cycling while exploring the North Coast more deeply and discovering its local characteristics and tourism appeal. Many continued their travels around the area after completing the ride, savoring fresh seafood, visiting tourist attractions, enjoying coffee, and taking in the sea views. In this way, the cycling event became a full-day, laid-back getaway on the North Coast!
