On the last day (Feb. 10) of the lunar New Year vacation, Chou Yung-hui, director of the Tourism Bureau, MOTC, as well as representatives of the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, visited Jhongjiao Bay in Jinshan, Taipei County. Together they discussed installing new leisure facilities and improving old ones with local surfing businesses. Other than establishing an environment suitable for surfing, more services need to be provided. An artistic installation might also be required to advertise Jhongjiao Bay as a surfing destination. What’s more, the bay area must be linked with other scenic spots through a local cycling network. All these are to be carried out to promote surfing and other water sports at the bay. As Premier Su Cheng-chang and MOTC minister Lin Chia-lung said, in time, Jhongjiao Bay shall be upgraded to be an international surfing site.
In the afternoon, magistrate Chu Chen-wang of Wanshou Neighborhood and local residents swept away drifted garbage on the local beach, in celebration of the upcoming working week after the lunar New Year. Regardless of winds and rain, more than 50 people attended this meaningful event and collected about 200 kg of trash. The Administration provided raincoats and memorial hats for free, to encourage the public to clean beaches and preserve oceans together.
