Safety Notices

Water-based recreation

  1. Water sports are forbidden at Linshanbi, Fugui Cape, Shitoushan area and Yehliu capes.
  2. Surfing activity is permitted in Jhongjiao Bay of Jinshan only.
  3. Swimming at Baisha Bay is required to be under surveillance by lifeguards. Surfing, canoeing and windsurfing are forbidden in the swimming area.
  4. The area surrounded by Dongao Fishing Harbor, Guikeng Fishing Harbor and Wanli is restricted for canoeing, scuba diving and swimming only.
    1. Swimming is permitted at the southern side of the sea wall of Houcuo Harbor, the front side of the left sea wall of Qianshui Bay car park, the algal reef area and the each area.
    2. Canoeing is forbidden in the swimming area.
  5. Recreational activities at Qianshui Bay are restricted to swimming and canoeing.

Safety notices for water activities on North Coast

Water areas along North Coast are open from May through September. Visitors of North Coast are advised to enjoy water activities under surveillance of lifeguards. Water activities during wintertime when no lifeguard is on duty is not recommended; drowning happens because of swimming alone or insufficient knowledge on safety.

Canoeing

  1. Canoeing alone is not recommended. Wireless communication devices and a lifesaving float should be prepared for canoeing activity.
  2. Do not drink alcohol before canoeing. Concerning about accidents caused by low physical capability, those who are carriers of heart disease, high blood pressure or epilepsy are not recommended for canoeing activity. Capsize drill and deep water rescue before canoeing is highly suggested.
  3. A licensed canoe operator and effective lifesaving equipment is required.

Scuba diving

  1. Do not scuba-dive alone. Scuba-dive with an experienced scuba-diver.
  2. Do not drink alcohol before scuba diving. Concerning about accidents caused by low physical capability, those who are carriers of heart disease, high blood pressure or epilepsy are not recommended for scuba diving. Accident drill before scuba diving is highly suggested.
  3. Check your equipment before scuba diving.
  4. Do not overestimate your skill or experience.
  5. Beware of waves, water temperature, direction of currents and speed of currents.
  6. A licensed scuba-diver and effective lifesaving equipment is required.

Water scooter

  1. Follow safety rules. Check your equipment and fuel capacity. Wear lifejacket and a helmet with straps fastened when riding a water scooter.
  2. Do not drink alcohol before riding a water scooter. Concerning about accidents caused by low physical capability, those who are carriers of heart disease, high blood pressure or epilepsy are not recommended for water scooter riding. Accident drill before water scooter riding is highly suggested.

Swimming safety

  1. Swim near where lifeguards are on duty. Follow instructions; do not cross the warning line.
  2. Do not overestimate your swimming skill and experience. Swimming around deep water can be rather dangerous. Do not swim in the bay when typhoons or lightening approaches.
  3. Apply sun lotion and wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your skin under the sunlight.
  4. Walking barefoot on the beach is not recommended; debris with sharp angles washed ashore by tides may cause injuries.
  5. Move ashore if you are injured in the water; the smell of blood may attract sharks. Leave the water area for medical treatment if you are stung by jelly fish or sea snakes.

Baisha Bay opening hours

  1. Baisha Bay is open to the public from May through September. During other months, engaging in water sports is not recommended for there will be no lifeguard on duty.
  2. Baisha Bay is open for water sports from 9a.m. thorough 5p.m. Engaging in water sports is not recommended for there will be no instruction and surveillance by lifeguards before 9a.m. and after 5p.m.
  3. On the days that the bay is open the bay is closed. Visitors should not to swim/paddle or engage in water activities at times when there are no lifeguards on duty to stay safe.

Dangerous areas and restrictions

    1. The sea walls on both sides of Blue Water Yacht Builders Ltd. Co at Qianshui Bay (the 15th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    2. The stone fish traps near Min-zhu-gong-wang Waterwheel Park (the 20.5th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    3. The stone fish traps near Linshan Cape (the 23rd kilometers on Provincial Highway No.2)
    4. The beach near Shimen Wedding Plaza (the 24.5th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    5. The sea walls at the entrance of Fuji Fishing Harbor (the 24.8th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    6. The mouth of Laomei River on Fugui Cape (the 25.5th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    7. The sea banks near the water outlet of 1st Nuclear Power Plant (the 30.4th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    8. The sea banks near the water inlet of 1st Nuclear Power Plant (the 31.5th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    9. The reef zone near Shuiwei Fishing Harbor
    10. The reef zone near Zhongzhen Pavilion in Shitoushan Park
    11. The sea banks near the water outlet of 2nd Nuclear Power Plant (the 45th kilometer on Provincial Highway No.2)
    12. The sea wall at Dong-ao Fishing Harbor near Yehliu Ocean World
    13. Xiangsiden Cape near the old tunnel in Yehliu.
    14. The reef zones near 3rd area in Yehliu Geopark
  • Entering the dangerous areas mentioned above is forbidden when Typhoons approach, or when the speed of sea wind or the height of tidal change reaches the level that Central Weather Bureau announced hazardous.
  • Violators of the restrictions mentioned above will be imposed a fine among NTD 3,000~NTD 15,000 according to Article 64 of the Tourism Development Regulations.

Mysterious Coastal Trail & Guangwu Tunnel in Jinshan

  1. Entering Mysterious Coastal Trail & Guangwu Tunnel without permission is prohibited. The constant tidal change, steep hillsides and falling rocks can be dangerous.
  2. The registration form for entering Mysterious Coastal Trail & Guangwu Tunnel.
  3. Academic research or recreational activities are prohibited without permission.
  4. Violators of the notices mentioned above will be imposed a fine among NTD 3,000~NTD 15,000 according to Article 64 of the Tourism Development Regulations.

Hot spring bath etiquette

  1. Shower before your hot spring bath.
  2. Carriers of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes or other diseases should take doctors’ advices in advance.
  3. Those who have sensitive skin or skin injuries are not recommended to take hot spring baths.
  4. Women having their menstrual period are forbidden to take hot spring baths.
  5. Pets are not permitted in the hot spring rooms.
  6. Do not spend over 15 minutes in the hot pools at a time.
  7. Keep your upper body part above the water.
  8. Do not go into the sauna immediately after leaving hot pools to avoid cornea injuries.
  9. Seniors, conceived women and kids under the age of three should not bathe alone to avoid accidents.
  10. Bathing after vigorous exercise is not recommended, for unconsciousness might happen due to insufficient blood supply to your brain.
