In promotion of the 2021 Year of Bicycle Tours, the Ministry of Transport and Communications now shares five main cycling themes which cover 16 routes as follows:
(1) The coasts (5 routes): North Coast (golden coasts, twin bays, Wanta Bicycle Path, and Wanjin Highway); Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan 1 (the sugar factory); Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan 2 (Taijiang); East Coast (Madao Chenggong); Penghu (Gaillardia Island).
(2) The riverside (2 routes): Kamalan (coastal Yilan & Lanyan Plain); Dapeng Bay (Dapeng Bay).
(3) Hills, valleys and forests (6 routes): Northeast Coast (golden coasts); East Rift Valley 1 (Huilan & Manpo); East Rift Valley 2 (hot springs, forests, and cycling); Sun Moon Lake (Sun Moon Lake); Sanshan 1 (Shitoushan); Sanshan 2 (Tianshui).
(4) High mountains (1 route): Maolin (mountain towns in Kaohsiung).
(5) The countryside (2 routes): Siraya (Lingpo & Guantian); East Rift Valley (indigenous music, rice fields, and nature).
These paths shall enable visitors to make travel plans on their own, depending on their needs and the time they have. Cycling is good for health and it is a feast for the eyes. It is of low carbon emissions and thus friendly to the environment. No matter you are professional cyclists or not, you are cordially invited to explore this beautiful island at a slow pace - 15 km an hour - on a bike!
