Laomei Green Reef – in the Spring only The North Scenic Area Administration "Salute to the Sea" with the Community!

Every spring the beauty of Laomei Green Reef, composed of sea notch and sea lettuce, in Shimen District on the north coast always attracts a large number of visitors and photography enthusiasts to be there. As some visitors may be curious about the stone troughs or want to get close for pretty pictures, they sometimes trample on the troughs. In order to maintain the sustainable environment and the stable ecology there, the North Scenic Area Administration has actively given guidance to enthusiastic locals and organizations to jointly set up the Volunteer Team for the Patrol of the Laomei Green Reef in the Shimen District. They have combined the community power with broadcasting system and field patrols to enhance persuasion and explanation. It is hoped that visitors will understand the ecology of the stone troughs and follow the appreciation convention of not stepping on them.

The North Scenic Area Administration has included 16 beaches such as Laomei Green Reef, Qianshui Bay, and Baisha Bay into the project of I Love Beach Cleaning to promote public welfare and eco-tourism through the cooperation of public and private sectors. In 2021, there were a total of 377 times of beach cleaning with 19,959 participants. Also, in cooperation with the Executive Yuan to promote the policy of Salute to the Sea, the Administration established a mechanism in 2020 to increase the clean frequency to be once every week for areas such as Laomei Stone Troughs where waste is easy to be accumulated to ensure coastal scenery and environment.
