Drifting Garbage off Zhong Jiao Shazhuwan Bay in Jin Shan Township

Qianshuiwann Bay in San Zhi County, Baishawan Bay in Shimen County, and Shazhuwan Bay in Jin Shan County are all classified into the supervised area of the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, MOTC.  Lately, an abundant amount of drifting substances, brought about by drastic climate change, currents and landscapes, have been severely impacting the quality of entertainment on the north coast shore area.  With this in mind, North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration has taken advantage of its annual budget to clear away the floating rubbish which up to the end of September as of 2017 has been totaled to 1,400 tons.  

 
Since 2012, North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration has organized the campaign of “I Love Beach Cleansing” and has since established its official website, inviting volunteers to participate at beach cleansing activities.  The campaign provides clippers, gloves, and garbage bags and accepts the application of the public, schools, and private groups from all over Taiwan.  The numbers of participants have been increasing, and the amounts of collected wastes have also augmented substantially.  Until the end of September, 457 rounds of beach cleansing application have been solicited and the total participants are up to 20,444 persons.  The collected garbage weighed 40 tons.  Among all of these participants, 4211 persons have joined the 57 times of beach clearing up activities.  Although many volunteers came to help, the drifting waste is still a big problem that has been menacing the beauty of nature by a global standard.

In these days, a few media channels have reported on the garbage management that had appeared in Jhongjiao Shazhuwan Bay of Jinshan County as an environmental protection issue.  Right after the reports, North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration had discovered that the beach cleansing activities had been vividly undertaken throughout the whole September.  The reason why drifting garbage did not subside is because the strong seasonal wind that dragged in the waste into the bay.  The drifting garbage in Shazhuwan Bay of Jinshan County has caused the attention and has arisen the concern of the environmentalists in Taiwan.  In response to the concerns and the questioning of the environmentalists, North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration has continued cleaning up the garbage in the bay area and actively has tried to remove the floating garbage on the sea.  Besides, the campaign of beach cleansing has gone on as the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration on the other hand has also seek the help of the Ministry of National Property to assist the removal of the surging wastes in water and the rid of the flooded-in garbage on the beach.  In addition to cleaning up the remaining garbage and to get rid of the floating waste on the sea surface, North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration  has urged the public not to leave garbage while visiting the bay areas to keep the beaches clean and beautiful.
