Formosa North Coast Arts Festival Receives Consecutive Honors: Both Its 2024 and 2025 Festivals Win Gold at the 2026 MUSE Design Awards

The Formosa North Coast Arts Festival, organized by the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters under the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has once again received international recognition following its Silver Award at the London Design Awards in 2023. Through its innovative and outstanding achievements in environmental art and community design, the festival has now won the Gold Winners in the “Conceptual Design – Exhibitions & Events” category at the 2026 MUSE Design Awards. This honor not only highlights the festival’s success in integrating environmental protection with tourism development, but also marks the North Coast’s emergence as an internationally connected destination for sustainable cultural tourism.

2024 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival: “Walking the Shoreline” Redefines the Boundary Between Land and Sea

The theme of the 2024 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival, “Walking the Shoreline,” was introduced by curators Chu-Lan Liu and Wei Yu. They viewed the shoreline as an intertidal zone for diverse artistic creation, bringing together a wide range of creative forces. Through the works by 25 resident artists, the festival brought art into communities across Keelung, Wanli, Jinshan, Shimen, and Sanzhi, creating distinctive cultural atmospheres within community and public spaces.

2025 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival: “The Legends of Driftwood” Reveals a Poetic Reflection on Natural Cycles and Cultural Memory

The 2025 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival adopts “the legends of driftwood” as its central concept, transforming driftwood into a symbol of environmental change and collective memory. Eighteen contemporary artists created works along the coastal route stretching from Keelung to Tamsui, forming an “art drift route” that encourages visitors to reflect upon cycles of regeneration and the value of sustainability.

“The More Local, the More International”: Building an International Brand for Sustainable Tourism Through Innovation and Community Collaboration

The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters stated that the Formosa North Coast Arts Festival is centered on the themes of “landscape connection,” “community co-creation,” and “sustainable coexistence.” Through collaboration between artists and local teams, the festival promotes workshops and landscape installations while embodying the idea that “your everyday life is the scenery that others travel from afar to experience.” By putting the concepts of “co-creation, co-prosperity, and co-learning” into practice and connecting tourism corridors, the festival promotes sustainable travel along Taiwan’s North Coast. The winning of the latest awards demonstrates the international potential of combining the North Coast’s mountain-and-sea landscapes with art. The arts festival is not merely an exhibition, but also a cultural initiative integrating education and community engagement to encourage positive environmental and social development within local communities. In the future, the festival will continue to deepen local partnerships, elevate environmental quality and public identity, and invite both domestic and international visitors to explore the North Coast and experience the beauty created through the fusion of art and nature.
