2017 Taiwan Bird Watching Ecological Activities in Winter

Ecological Experiences Camp
If you intend to appreciate the fun of bird watching and have difficulty in getting into the hobby, or if you would like to participate at Bird Watching and running and do not know how to watch birds, do not worry.  From September to October, there will be five bird watching marathon races that take place in Jilong, Taizhong, Yunlin, and Tainan.  Experienced bird watchers will tour the trip, and teach the participants, families and children alike, to get to know the beauty of birds in nature.

The first session:【Lover’s Lake Ecological Experience Activity】

Date: September, 09 (Sunday)
Time and meeting place: 8:30-11:30 Locomotive at Keelong lover’s lake.
Participants: the public, children and family are especially welcome
Registration method: online registration, the deadline is September 12 at 20 pm. Participants limited to fifty people.

Activity content:
Along the lover’s lake, many pavilions can be found.  The lover’s suspension bridge, observation platform by the lake, windmills, and mountain trails all add the great atmosphere to the scenic spots located on the north coast shore of the Keelong area.  While enjoying the quiet atmosphere in the woods, the grand view of mountains and the ocean also gives pleasure to the beauty of the lake. The poetic trails allow the visitors to go up to the mountain and to vie the breath taking view of the Aodu Fishing Harbor, Keelong Islet, as well as Ye Liu Cape. 
Lover’s Lake Ecological Experience Activity aims to familiarize the participants with the ecological elements of the lake, including plants, birds, and butterflies that nestle in the lake area.  The tour guides will be giving three different ecological talks, including plants, birds, and butterflies.  Several prizes will be given to participants who win the quiz games on the ecological knowledge relating to Lover’s Lake area.  Souvenirs such as Eagle Baseball Caps and T shirts will be given for the winners of the visitors.

The second session:【Decorate a home for Lilly-trotters】
 
Date: 2017 October 1 (Sunday)
Time and meeting place: 08:30-12:30  Tainan Lilly-trotter Ecological Education Center
 
Participants:Parents with children, and the children need to be older than five years old.
Registration method: online registration , the deadline is September 26 at 12 pm. Participants limited to forty people.
 
Activity content:
Lily-trotters are categorized as the second-class preservation waterfowl.  They need wet lands, and especially, wetlands with floating plants so as to survive.  The nestling areas have been decreased lately; as the result, fewer lily-trotters can be found in Taiwan.  Lily-trotters ecological center has planted many leafy floating plants, so that many lily-trotters stay in this area to be fed on and to propagate.  They are a variety of routines that need to be done so as to keep these lily-trotters, such as planting water chestnut and Indian celeries.
If you would like to get to know more about the life of lily trotters as well as how they are kept in the ecological center, please come to visit us during the Bird Watching Marathon beginning from Ocotober.

The third session:【Seaside Waterfowl Investigation Experience Camp】

Date: 2017 October 7 (Saturday)
Meeting time and place: 7:00-12:00 Tainan Yanshui River northern side and Sicao Bird Museum
Participants: parents with children
Registration method: online registration, the deadline is October 3 at noon pm. Participants limited to forty people.
 
Activity content:
As the Yanshui River flows to the sea, many sand beaches and lagoons can be found in the Si Cao area of Tainan.  Here, a diversity of animals and plants thrive, and in winter, many kinds of migrating birds will stop over from other countries to spend the winter here.
Si Cao area is the best place to do bird watching.  During the Bird Watching Marathon, we will teach the participants how to use binocular to watch birds and to count bird.  Indoor lessons also are provided to prepare the participants the knowledge of the migrating birds and the wetland native birds.  Family members will also play games related to bird watching.

The forth session:【Gao Mei Wild Animals Protraction Area and Natural Ecology Experience Camp】

Date: 2017 October 14 (Saturday)
Meeting time and place: 9:00-11:30 Taizhong Gao Mei Wet Land GaoxiLi Parking Lot
Participants: Parents with children
Registration method: email to birdtw.a1@msa.hinet.net  for on line registration, and the deadline is October 2 at 1800 pm. Participants limited to seventy.

Activity content:
Taizhong Gaomei Wet Land, also called Gaomei Wild Animal Preservation Area, is one of the most important wetlands in Taiwan. It provides the opportunity for the public to get to know ecological touring and it is also essential for the visitors to get to know the combination of nature and humanitarian of the Taizhong metropolitan area.  During the Bird Watching Marathon, the guides will explain in detail about the animals and their living styles inside the wet lands.  The participants will get the chance to get inside the wetland to witness the animals and nature to support and protect the wetland in the future.
 
The content of the activity includes
·To get to know the function of the wet land and understand the formation of the wet land.
·To get to know the seashore plants, immigrated plants and their mutual influence.
·To understand wet land crabs and the protection of the crabs in the Gao Mei Wet Land.
·To get to know the wet land birds, immigrated birds, and the preservation of these birds.
·To understand the current impending crisis of the wet land.
· To explore and experience the wet land.

The fifth session:【Jia Yi Salt Field and Wet Land’s Ecology Experience Camp】

Date: 2017 October 21 (Saturday)
Time and place: 8:00-12:00
Meeting place: Budai Wet Land Ecological Center
participants: Parents with children
Registration method: online registration , the deadline is October 17 at noon. Participants limited to forty.
 
Activity content:
A huge body of water surface can be found along the Bu Dai area.  In October, many migrating birds will spend the season on the surface and neighboring area of the water in the Budai Salt Fields.  Types of birds and numbers of fowls in Budai Salt Fields area have been increasing.  Consequently, more bird watching lovers will pay the visit to the wet land and the salt fields in Budai.  All participants are welcome to come to our Bird Watching Marathon to get to know more stories about the past, the present, and the future of the ecology of the salt fields.   Under the explanation of the tour guides, the participants will write down words and paint the landscape in the wet land area of the Budai salty fields.
