Boosting Shimen Scenic Area and promoting Laomei, Shimen Cave

In order to allow more tourists to see the beautiful scenery of Shimen District, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters is currently optimizing the landscape of Shimen Cave and constructing a Laomei Green Reef Trail. By taking over the land and facilities from New Taipei City Government and other related units, the development principles of “restoring the natural scenery,” “design reduction,” “environmental conservation” and “tourist-oriented” are being employed to transform scenic spots. All construction is expected to be completed before the end of December 2025.

Shimen Cave is located in the North Coast Scenic Area, which is mainly famous for its culture, geological terrain and coastal landscapes. In order to develop Shimen Cave into a national-level scenic spot, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters plans to first focus on the surrounding area and the parking lot. Work will involve conducting overall landscape optimization and renovation, restoring green spaces on both sides of Shimen Cave, and renovating parking lots, public toilets, landscape platforms and other facilities to improve the sustainable management and quality.

Another well-known secret beauty “Laomei Green Reef” attracts many photography enthusiasts from February to May every year and is also a must-visit attraction for tourists. However, the surface of the Green Reef is slippery and dangerous. The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters is planning a new elevated walkway trail based on the concept of ecological conservation and reducing the impact of the project on the environment and ecological species. The trail connects Fuguijiao Trail to the Green Reef, allowing visitors to safely enjoy the reef trough without stepping on it and destroying the natural environment, ensuring the precious Green Reef survives permanently. At the same time, this attracts tourists from Fuguijiao Lighthouse and Fuji Fishing Port to Laomei Community who, through a series of trails, can also visit to other popular attractions in Shimen District, enabling them to experience the beauty of Shimen in a more in-depth way.
