Keelung Having Fun Nonstop ~ "Island Life Festival" introduces 3 major themes and 8 events to promote immersive experiences and healing

The "Island Life Festival" hosted by North Guan National Scenic Area will be held in Keelung’s Heping Island Park from July 23 to August 28. The month-long Island Life Festival is themed "Ocean, Healing, Experience." Relaxing, in-depth, local and close-to-nature experiences are linked to local culture, local specialties and other tourism resources. Visitors are invited to experience marine culture through eight events including an island night time concert, island markets, outdoor SUP experiences, marine photography exhibitions, marine related lectures, local tours and immersive experiences.

The event kicked off with the “Island Market” and “Island Night Time Concert” on July 23rd and 24th, inviting 40 local Keelung teams and limited specialty stores from Taiwan's outlying islands. The event is held on a large stage on the beach with six well-known bands putting on a concert. Come and enjoy the event against a backdrop of sun, ocean and moonlight.

Limited-time in-depth tours are led by local celebrities such as Shuhao Lin, founder of Zhengbin Art Creator In Residence, Yanbo Shan, the organizer of Keilang Camino, and Xu Xi, design director of The Journal of Exploration in Keelung An-Le Traditional Market, who take visitors on a tour of Keelung’s Zhengbin Fishing Port, Color Houses, An-Le Market, Container Terminal and other places. Feel the unique culture of the old city and learn the local stories of Keelung that cannot be found in travel books. In response to the growing trend of independent travel “Island Food Quest” provides visitors with an immersive eating experience they can enjoy alone. The official website introduces specialty food stores in Keelung such as Over the Sea, Sanping, Badouyao etc. Click on the “Sound Story Card” to listen to well-known Keelung stories and hear about recommended special attractions. Visitors can also record sounds during the journey, and North Guan National Scenic Area will collect these audio tracks and create an audio art work combined with unique insights from exploring Keelung.

“Island Ecologist: Ocean Waste Mission” takes visitors scuba diving and helps to clean up the ocean. The sea cleaning experience is an event jointly organized with National Ocean University, the goal being to “respect to the sea,” together with professional instructors and diving buddies who help to protect marine ecology. In the afternoon of the same day, Mr. Huang Xiaomo, a woman who changed her life because of the ocean, and the local Keelung team, Slow Island Travel, give an ecological lecture that is both educational and entertaining.

In recent years, Heping Island Park has become a new tourist attraction in Keelung and won the Best Accessible Tourist Attraction Award at the 2018 Svayam Accessibility Awards; it is the only national-level tourist attraction in Asia to have obtained “ISO 20121 Sustainable Activity Management System Certification.” During the festival, there are events such as “Island Floating SUP Stand up Paddle Experience” courses, a one-month “Island Photography Exhibition,” and an “Island Global Village” that allow international visitors to visit Heping Island Park. Individuals can connect with the ocean through ecology, sports and leisure, art and literature, and re-experience the relationship between people and nature.
