Art Drifting into Life: Exciting September Events at the 2025 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival

Guided by the Tourism Administration and organized by the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Headquarters and the Ju Ming Museum, the 2025 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival has been captivating audiences since its grand opening in July. As the festival continues with a diverse lineup of events, it is also expanding to different locations along the North Coast. Collaborating with the Ju Ming Museum and local restaurants in Jinshan’s city center and Keelung’s Badouzi, the festival offers an exciting mix of activities including hands-on co-creation workshops, local walking tours, street music performances, and guided art exhibitions. Now through September, everyone is invited to “Play with Art and Play with Life” and join in the celebration!

Driftwood in Daily Life: Connecting People and the Land

Inspired by driftwood, the festival is planning a series of artistic and interactive workshops this August and September. Highlights include “Take the Drifting Fish Home,” “Drifting Puzzle Fun,” and “Embracing a Piece of the Sea,” hands-on co-creation experiences perfect for families. These workshops will be held on weekends at the Ju Ming Museum and are suitable for people of all ages.

To help visitors gain a deeper understanding of the artworks, the Formosa North Coast Arts Festival continues to host “art tours” this September. Join us on Saturday, September 6, and Saturday, September 13, for guided tours led by the festival’s artist team, who offers five works (“Aqueous Seed,” “Cross-Section,” “Imagining Drift,” “Drifting Tunnel,” “Whispers of Autumn ) within the Ju Ming Museum and “The Seed of Island II” at the Baishawan Recreation Area. Through guided narration and sensory exploration, visitors can uncover the inspirations and environmental messages behind each artwork.

Celebrate the 2025 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival with our exclusive “Snap & Share for a Gift” event! Just take a photo of any artwork featured in the festival, upload the photo to Facebook or Instagram, tag the Ju Ming Museum official account, and hashtag FormosaNorthCoastArtsFestival and NorthCoastAndGuanyinshanNationalScenicAreaFanpage-HappyNorthCoast. Show your post to the staff at the Ju Ming Museum Service Center and receive a limited-edition and limited quantity sea glass pendant!

Local Curatorial Network: Embark on a Diverse Art and Culture Journey Across the North Coast

Other than the main events at the Ju Ming Museum, this year’s festival collaborates with three local curatorial teams — “Wave in Jinshan,” “ShaioPo,” and the “TESA Creative Center.” Together, they present a special regional curatorial series that blends nature, culture, and creativity. Visitors are invited to explore the land with their own footsteps and co-create with nature through hands-on experiences. Come and embark on a summer art journey that flows from the mountains to the sea—and straight to the heart.

Regional Curatorial events include: Wave in Jinshan - In-Depth Fishing Village Tour (Huanggang: A Journey Through Mountains and Sea), workshop (Drifting - Fish Trail); ShaioPo - Marine Waste Art Workshops (Tidewood × Journeys Series) (Fish × Swim) (Wood × Light), ocean dining experience; and the TESA Creative Center - Environmental Art Workshops (the Flowing Body - drifting body, an ecological dance workshop), Driftwood Embodiment—Space & Body Co-creation Workshop, and the ecological dance live performance and seminar.

Through these regional curatorial programs, the 2025 Formosa North Coast Arts Festival seeks to bring art beyond the exhibition halls and into everyday life, fostering deep connections with the land and local communities. We warmly invite everyone to visit the North Coast this summer and discover new possibilities in life through creation and participation.

co-creation activities

Drawing inspiration from driftwood, the festival’s co-creation activities invite both children and adults to take part in the experience. The photo features the workshop “Drifting Puzzle Fun,” where participants stack different-shaped driftwood to bring imagination to life.

The Sea Glass Workshop

The Sea Glass Workshop “Embracing a Piece of the Sea” was inspired by driftwood as a symbol of ocean conservation and the connection between people and marine debris. The workshop uses sea glass creations to allow participants to rethink the relationship between art and the environment.

The art co-creation workshop

The art co-creation workshop “Drifting - Fish Trail” uses driftwood as the creative medium. Participants use painting and shape design to express their personal memories and emotions on the Fish Trail and the North Coast shoreline.

the TESA Creative Center

Using “The Flowing Body” curatorial theme, the TESA Creative Center collaborates with the ecological innovation dance team, Dancecology, for an on-site residency project. The dance team invites participants to dialogue with nature through body movements.

The in-depth fishing village tour

The in-depth fishing village tour “Huanggang: A Journey Through Mountains and Sea” is centered around the historic Fish Trail. This tour integrates hot spring landscapes, ecological resources, cultural heritage, and local youth initiatives to create a rich storytelling experience. Curated by the local creative team “Wave in Jinshan,” the tour takes participants on an exploratory walk through Huanggang Fishing Village and along the starting point of the Fish Trail, offering a fresh perspective on Jinshan, where mountains meet the sea and energy converges.

Art Festival

Art Festival Guided Tours follow art worker-led tours to gain an in-depth understanding of the artists’ creative concepts and the stories behind their works. Explore the environmental significance and artistic transformation of driftwood, and experience the captivating interplay between nature and art.
