“Ocean-cleaning by Volunteer Divers,” regularly promoted locally by the Ocean Conservation Administration, was inaugurated again in 2021. National Taiwan Ocean University, North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Heping Island Park, and a few other private groups co-organized events and follow-up advocacy. Soon after the Central Epidemic Command Center announced that diving is allowed again, on July 31, the ocean-cleaning activity was held. A remarkable result was achieved - 212 kilograms of garbage were collected.
Due to ocean currents, the bay between Heping Island of Keelung and CSBC Keelung Branch is often stacked with garbage and it is not easy to remove it. Encouraged by National Taiwan Ocean University and Keelung City Sports & Leisure Association, 40 zealous divers gathered up and picked up marine waste such as floats, foams, and plastic bottles.
