To achieve the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters has assessed the climate and soil conditions of its coastal and mountainous areas before developing the “Tree Planting Project.” On March 12, the project was officially launched with a tree planting event at Fugui Cape and Fugui Cape Wind Art Army Camp , in collaboration with the Shimen District Office of New Taipei City, local village chiefs, residents, and tourism partners.
The North Coast is home to the most spectacular coastline in northern Taiwan, combining unique natural features with rich cultural landscapes. Spanning from Wugu, Bali, Tamsui, Sanzhi, Shimen, Jinshan, and Wanli in New Taipei to Keelung, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters plans to plant suitable species such as cherry blossoms, Formosan nato trees, Sexton’s brides, Chinese fringetrees, and azaleas. With a green corridor concept and scenic design adapted to the coastal climate, the project aims to plant 10,000 trees over the next four years. This effort is part of a broader initiative to promote sustainable tourism along the Crown Coast, encouraging people to visit the North Coast, connect with nature, and take home cherished memories—while helping preserve the area’s natural ecology for generations to come.
Additionally, to enhance public awareness of travel safety, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters supports the Tourism Administration’s designation of the third week of March as “Travel Safety Awareness Week.” Efforts made focus on six key areas—food safety, accommodation safety, transportation safety, environmental safety, shopping safety, and entertainment safety—to strengthen travelers’ safety awareness. In addition to providing timely safety information to visitors, the headquarters is organizing a series of safety-related activities. These include joint inspections of high-risk areas along the North Coast, water safety workshops, rescue drills, and mobile travel service safety campaigns at Lovers Lake Park , Fugui Cape Trail, and Laomei Green Reef. Training is also being provided to frontline personnel to improve their knowledge and response skills in emergency situations. The initiative also extends to schools. Working with elementary and junior high schools in Tamsui, Sanzhi, Shimen, Jinshan, Wanli, and Keelung, the headquarters is conducting campus outreach programs focused on rip current, water recreation safety, and maritime safety along the North Coast.
The North Coast has long been a popular destination for water activities during northern Taiwan’s summer months. To improve the safety of recreational water activities and prevent drowning incidents, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters hopes to spread knowledge about maritime safety, boost community involvement, and reduce related accidents, ultimately fostering a safer travel environment.
