With the Danjiang Bridge officially open to traffic this May, transportation and tourism development along Taiwan’s North Coast are set to enter a new era. Spanning the mouth of the Tamsui River, this landmark infrastructure project will not only markedly improve regional connectivity but also seamlessly link the area’s mountain and coastal attractions. On May 3, the Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters participated in the Danjiang Bridge pre-opening event series, “Together Arts Festival,” inviting the public to experience the international landmark firsthand through a variety of promotional and interactive activities while discovering the North Coast’s unique attractions and slow-travel experiences.
The Danjiang Bridge is currently the world’s longest asymmetric, single-tower cable-stayed bridge, representing a remarkable achievement in both engineering and aesthetic design and becoming one of the most representative landmarks in northern Taiwan. Its low-profile tower preserves the expansive skyline of the Tamsui River estuary, while its elegant, streamlined form blends harmoniously with the surrounding mountain and coastal landscape. Changing light throughout the day gives the bridge a variety of distinctive appearances, making it not only a vital transportation infrastructure but also a piece of public art that embodies environmental aesthetics.
As transportation infrastructure continues to improve, the North Coast tourism corridor is also being upgraded. Visitors can begin their journey from Guanyinshan, hiking to Yinghanling for panoramic views of the Taipei Basin and the magnificent meeting of river and sea. From there, they can continue to Tamsui and Bali, following the coastline northward to connect with a collection of internationally renowned attractions, thereby creating a complete, diverse travel itinerary.
The route features a wealth of attractions, including Yehliu Geopark, famous for its extraordinary rock formations, and Fugui Cape Lighthouse, located at the northernmost point of Taiwan’s main island. Together, these destinations showcase the region’s rich geological heritage, ecological diversity, and historical culture. The journey concludes at Qianshui Bay, where visitors can relax at seaside cafés and admire breathtaking sunset views while embracing the leisurely pace of slow travel.
The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters also encourages travelers to explore the region by taking the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Crown Northern Coast Line or cycling along the North Coast Bikeway. These low-carbon transportation options connect major attractions while promoting sustainable tourism and environmentally friendly travel experiences. By combining natural landscapes, cultural attractions, and eco-friendly mobility, visitors can enjoy a new style of slow travel that injects fresh vitality into North Coast tourism.
