The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters has once again demonstrated its excellence in public infrastructure design and public space revitalization. The “Jinshan Huanggang Hot Spring Recreation Area Development Project” (hereinafter referred to as “the Project”), commissioned by the Headquarters, has been awarded the Golden Stone Award in the Construction Category under the “Outstanding Public Construction / Outstanding Space Revitalization Division” following a rigorous evaluation by the judging panel at the 34th Chinese Architectural Golden Stone Award. The Project successfully integrates the natural landscapes of a local fishing port with its precious natural hot springs, bringing new life to North Coast tourism and recreation through a design that combines sustainability with local aesthetics.
The Project is located on Huanggang Road in Jinshan District, New Taipei City, near Huanggang Bridge. Throughout the planning and construction stages, the Project adhered to the environmentally friendly principles of “coexistence with nature and minimal interferences.” Key improvements included reorganizing and channeling hot spring overflow through the installation of a dedicated drainage channel, laying weather-resistant and saltwater-corrosion-resistant wood-plastic composite decking, and creating a comfortable foot-soaking and relaxation area. While respecting the character of local fishing ports and preserving existing native ecological resources, the Project overcame environmental challenges posed by coastal sandy soil and severe salt exposure. It successfully established a decking area that integrates nature, water-friendly design, and recreation, achieving harmonious coexistence between infrastructure development and the natural environment.
The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters noted that Huanggang, Jinshan is home to “Golden Springs,” a distinctive and exceptionally rare natural iron-rich spring in Taiwan that has long been popular with domestic and international visitors. In the past, the area lacked an integrated development plan, and hot spring water often overflowed naturally, while the overall quality of the space remained below its potential. To revitalize the area, the Headquarters’ project team focused on three core elements: hot spring foot baths, fishing port scenery, and low-impact design. By seamlessly connecting the natural landscapes of Huanggang Fishing Harbor with its natural springs, the Project has transformed the area into a high-quality, accessible, comfortable, and safe space for hot spring foot-soaking and relaxation. Whether admiring the spectacular landscapes where mountains, sea, and fishing harbor meet during the day, or enjoying a soothing foot bath with warm, carefully designed lighting at night, visitors can experience the area in entirely different ways.
