The documentary "The Fishing Fire Light of Hope" filmed by the Northguan National Scenic Area Administration won the Remy Platinum Award, the highest honor in the short film category at the "56th Houston International Film Festival." The premiere of the documentary was held at the Jinshan Fishermen’s Association. As a result, Taiwan's Jinshan fishing fire culture was seen on the world stage and the award-winning documentary is expected to encourage more people to protect and preserve the showcased century-old fishermen's skills.
"The Fishing Fire Light of Hope" records the century-old development of sulfuric fire fishing, and the only remaining sulfuric fire fishing boat - "Fuji 268" - in Taiwan. The young sulfuric fire fishing captain Jian Shikai returned home to take over his father's business, but faced a falling fish population and declining traditional fishing industry.
The documentary is also an important demonstration of critical industrial evolution from the traditional fishing industry to cultural tourism. The documentary seeks to create a connection between Jinshan sulfuric fire fishing culture and the public, while also encouraging the transformation and revival of the traditional fishing industry.
In addition, the Northguan National Scenic Area Administration has also partnered with several travel agencies to launch sulfuric fire fishing themed itineraries, and a number of Crown Coast itineraries based on the featured highlights at "Crown Coast Tourism Union" counseling stores and packages. Through cultural tourism, visitors can enjoy the brightest sulfuric fishing fires on the North Coast in summer up-close, visit the fishing village of Huanggang, sail along ancient fishing routes and support sulfuric fire fishing and culture.
