Laomei Green Reef

Audio Guide

Selected as one of the eight wonders of Taiwan by the CNN, Laomei’s attractive green reefs and the blue sea look perfect together. Every year, from February to May, the dreamlike scenery draws photographers to capture its mesmerizing beauty.

Located in Shimen District, New Taipei City, Laomei Green Reefs derive from volcanic matters of Datun Mountains. After a long time of sea erosions, their soft parts are gone, leaving the hard compounds that look like ditches. As waves hit the reef surfaces under northeast monsoons, green algae such as sea lettuce and “green hair” slowly grow. The result is the amazing seasonal scene of Laomei Green Reefs.

Their existence always attract curious tourists.
