Tiaoshi Coasts

Audio Guide

The coasts north of downtown Jinshan are beautiful, and Tiaoshi Coasts further north are ideal for enjoying coastal views. Before Danjin Highway was inaugurated, roaring waves often stopped people from moving around in the area. The locals and visitors alike had to wait until tides recede. Then, they jump from one big rock to another to go forth. That’s why the place is called “Tiaoshi,” meaning “rock jumping.”

Jinshan was previously a part of the seabed. It only rose up along with the slowly rising plates. Then, squeezed by the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate, Datun Volcanoes took shape and their magma spread out in all directions. The unique volcanic Tiaoshi Coasts are remains of that time period.

Fun Facts

Every autumn and winter, the cloud shadows on the north coast change and become varied and rich and many people who like to watch clouds visit the long coastline to view them. In addition, the waves crash against the gravel, giving rise to the name “Tiaoshi Silver Waves.” Here visitors can choose unique shops or enjoy afternoon tea while taking in the sea vista and on a leisurely afternoon.
