The entrance to Niugangling Trail is located to the right of Guanyinshan Visitor Center, with the large stone sculpture "Offspring of Dragons" the most eye-catching landmark. The trail is 753 meters in length, with an intersecting solid and smooth stone path and steel trestle-style trail. Along the way, visitors can enjoy a natural ecology predominantly made up of herbs and rattan, as well as acacia, while Machilus thunbergii and other large trees almost blocking out the sky, the golden sunlight shining through the trees, creating a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere for those taking a stroll.
Niugangleng Trail is an important butterfly trail in northern Taiwan. Many subtropical honey plants are seen along the route, including Machilus thunbergia, Bischofia javanica, Machilus zuihoensis, Celtis formosana, Hydrangea chinensis, etc. These attract different types of butterflies seeking food, the more commonly seen species including Hestina assimilis formosana, Timelaea albescens formosana, Chitoria chrysolora and Rapala caerulea liliacea. The Northguan Scenic Area Headquarters has installed "ecological signboards" on both sides of the trail, allowing visitors to learn about nature and making this an important location for ecological education in northern Taiwan.
