Fengguidouhu Trail

Many tourists come to the Fengguidouhu Trail to search for a “hu (lake)” but cannot find it. After asking the locals, they suddenly realize that in the past, a basin-shaped depression surrounded by mountains on three sides was referred to as “hu (lake).” If you look carefully, you will find that the Guanyinshan Visitor Center is situated in this “hu (lake)” with a magnificent view.

Hikers using the Guanyinshan Trail System often consider the Fengguidouhu Trail a subsidiary route to the Yinghanling Trail. This perception arises because the Fengguidouhu Trail converges with the Yinghanling Trail approximately 940 meters from its endpoint, without leading to an independent peak.

The Fengguidouhu Trail is approximately 788 meters long, with its entrance located behind the “Lion Park” at the Guanyinshan Visitor Center, adjacent to Huafu Mountain Road (Township Road N-53). On the mountain wall opposite the parking area, there is a sign indicating “Fengguidouhu Trail.”

Go along the industrial road for about 500 meters and enter the trail through the narrow path on the left side of the residential house. The neatly arranged stone steps begin to ascend steeply. The hikers on this trail seem like seasoned travelers, leisurely and composed. The trail is flanked by lush forests and well-grown bamboo, providing excellent shade. The murmuring streams beside the mountain path accompany the hikers’ footsteps, helping novices slightly alleviate heavy sweating and panting.

Actually, this trail is neither too long nor too short. Before you know it, you will reach the saddle junction that connects with the Yinghanling Trail as you walk on the 788-meter stone steps and rest from time to time. Turning left at the junction leads to Yinghanling, and turning right passes by the Water Resources Agency relay station and the Weaklings Club, then it is downhill all the way. You can take the Township Road N-53 exit to Lingyun Zen Temple ’s Kaishan Courtyard, which is a good option.

The Fengguidouhu Trail is moderately long with a sufficient incline, making it suitable for fitness, endurance training, and self-challenge.
