Guangan Temple

Audio Guide

Jinbaoli Old Street took shape in the Qing Dynasty. And Juxing Hall that worshipped the Sacred Lord of Zhangzhou Settlers was built later in the years of Qianlong. One of the oldest temples of its kind, Juxing Hall was only renamed as Guang’an Temple after the nationalist government came to Taiwan.

Fun Facts

The Guangan Temple holds its annual procession on February 15 by the lunar calendar. It was said that the two statues of the Gods for Zhanzhou Immigrants (i.e. generals in sitting pose, with their feet resting on the backs of sacred turtles) flew off their old temple before they were escorted to a temple in the Jinbaoli Street. Surprised pilgrims later found the two statues and their sedan chair resting on the Jinbaoli altar. The story got passed on and became a favorite story among the locals.
