Twin Candlestick Islets

Candle Holder Islets is hailed as one of the Eight Wonders of Jinshan. 60 meters above the sea level, they used to be the tip of Huanggang Peninsula. With the area rising up from under the sea, the islets eventually broke away from the peninsula. And eroded by constant waves, their underneath caves gradually turned into arches. After the top of the arches toppled, sea stacks took shape. Above the water surface, the formations now look like a pair of candle holders, and thus they are called Candle Holder Islets.

There is a poignant and touching love story behind Twin Candlestick Islets: It is said that there was once a woman whose husband disappeared after sailing away. However, she firmly believed he would come back one day and so waited on the shore every day, but she never saw her husband again and eventually turned to stone. When her husband finally returned and found his wife become stone, he cried beside the stone all day long, and finally he too turned to stone remaining there by her side forever.

Zhongzheng Pavilion at the end of Shitoushan Park Trail is the best place to take photos of the Twin Candlestick Islets and enjoy the sea vista. No matter whether seen from a distance or a bird's eye view, the rich topography of the Jinshan Coast reaching into the distance is breathtakingly beautiful.
